Family Therapy

Every family experiences stress and difficulties. The family's ability to navigate unexpected changes, events, or stressors varies from family to family, but also across time. A number of factors can impact the family's effectiveness in weathering stress, including, but not limited to, past experiences of the individuals and the family unit, patterns of communication, parenting styles, developmental stages of the child/ren, and access to external social supports. Dr. Harriman will begin by meeting with the family and its members to understand what is contributing to the problems that bring your family to therapy. Depending on the nature of the problem and resulting treatment recommendations, your family may work with Dr. Harriman to improve communication, develop effective coping strategies, or more directly address the unexpected change, event or stressors that is impacting your family.
